Print Overload

În urmă cu 102 luni

Print overload is a trend that is fast becoming a catwalk staple; Gucci had full floral print suits in their Spring 2017 Menswear collection (previous collections have a wide range of different prints also), Mary Katrantzou is famous for her kaleidoscopic prints, and layers upon layers of print is seen across Manish Arora’s past and present collections. In this post I am going to explore different ways to wear print.

Starting with my first two looks, I wanted to focus on clashing prints. Sticking to florals (easiest to get hold of, although any colourful print could also work), you could either clash large print with a ditsy print with a contrast of light and dark colours, or as I have chosen, a clash between floral and geometric prints. This works really well as the bright flowers pop out a lot more against a print that is monochrome and simplistic.

My last two looks were inspired by Clueless. The looks in this film are very matchy-matchy, (with the iconic yellow plaid two-piece being the obvious example), but I love it! I have clashed the two plaid prints in the first look, which I think works perfectly as they follow the same colour scheme, while my second look uses the same leopard print throughout. It’s very easy to make animal print look tacky, but I think with the print being broken into patches on the top it’s not too much with the backpack. You could also try different animal prints- my favourite is cow print! I have finished the look with classic 90's pieces such as the knee-high socks, hoops, Mary-Janes and mini bag.

Thank you for reading! What’s your favourite print?

Please let me know what other styles you would like me to explore in future posts!
