Shaving Your Legs - Worth It?

89 måneder siden

Let's just get this straight: I don't shave my legs. I'm a girl in my late teens, and I don't shave my legs. Virtually every other girl I know shaves routinely, each for her own reasons. Most of them say "I just do" when I ask them why they shave.

Today, I want to talk about why I don't shave my legs, and why you might want to consider stopping, too.

First things first, my leg hair is very light and thin. It doesn't show up very clearly against my skin, and it doesn't curl or stick out, usually. This is just my lucky genetics, I guess, but it makes me feel more comfortable with unshaven legs.

Also, shaving is a lot of work. It involves shaving cream, razors, and potentially some frustration when you miss a bit in the shower. I don't want to go through that every week or so, especially since shaving the ends off your leg hair means that when it grows in again, it'll look thicker.

My biggest reason is probably that shaving is a double-standard. When I sat down and asked myself why women are expected to shave their legs and men aren't, I couldn't think of a good reason. I found out that women actually weren't encouraged to shave until World War II, when many men were fighting overseas and razor companies had to alter their audience to stay in business. Weird, huh?

I feel comfortable and beautiful without shaving my legs. This might not be the case for you, and that's okay. If shaving your legs makes you feel empowered and confident, that's awesome! If you want to make a statement or just avoid the hassle by leaving your leg hair alone, that's fantastic, too.

What do you think of leg-shaving?

Til next time!
