Our Favorite Things About Rookie- Tavi’s new site

162 maanden geleden

A look at Rookie's home page.

Tavi Genvinson, the teen blogger best known for a) being wise beyond her years b) inspiring Rodarte’s Target collection c) a great sense of style and d) causing a couture hat scandal, has finally launched her latest, much-anticipated venture. Rookie, an online mag for her high-school aged peers with a twice yearly print edition, went live yesterday. We may be far from Gevinson‘s 15-years-young, but that doesn’t make her new site any less cool. It’s the voice of many a gawky teenager with a fondness for vintage iconoclast and eccentricities alike, giving a home to unknowingly sophisticated kids who’ll one day be the next Alexa Chung despite the peer exile they may be suffering through right now. Our favorite things about Rookie are:

1. Gevinson posts content on a teen-friendly schedule, three times a day—after school, dinnertime, and right before bed so those 15 minute intervals of downtime between chem homework will be put to good use.

2. Most of the products recommended are available at mall-friendly shops, so you’ll never miss out on that new watermelon shade of gloss (expertly displayed in instagrammed portraits).

3. All of the fashion editorials are fashionably grassroots without borrowed high-end clothing but full of endearing teen staples like scraped knees and Tiffany ID bracelets.

4. There’s a column called “Ask a Grown Person,” which’ll shed light on the enlightening (and less oppressive) years to come.

5. Proving that this site isn’t for the bubblegum at heart, there’s an overwhelming appreciation for Morrissey and his like-minded musical cohorts.
