Frida Kahlo Inspired Makeup

122 mesi fa

Hello all! Beatrix here.

Frida Kahlo de Rivera, 1907-1954, was a painter from Mexico who was known for her self-portraits. She painted in the surrealism style.

Ever since first learning of Frida Kahlo in my art class, I fell in love with her art and her as a person. Frida Kahlo's rejection of beauty standards - shown in her eyebrows and mustache - is a beautiful thing in itself. She darkened her eyebrows and mustache with makeup as an intentional symbol of rejection.

With that being said, these makeovers are not meant to be disrespectful to Frida Kahlo. They are meant to pay homage by incorporating elements from her famous painting - "Self-Portrait with Thorn Necklace and Hummingbird."

Ironically, I don't have a thorn necklace or hummingbird.

Selecting thick eyebrows is a must for this look. Your hair should be some form of braid to keep it true to Frida Kahlo.

Give your eyes a natural look with tones like creme, brown, and grey. Add volume mascara.

My cheeks are a bit bold for this look, but that's just my style. Finish off the look with red lipstick.

For a more "stylized" look, add a slightly longer braided hairstyle and Kahlo-esque accessories such as the Spectacular Look at the Stars Sunglasses for 9 SD.

Alright dolls, I hope you enjoyed!
