Where Is Whitney?

The only Whitney to cross our TV screens these days is comedian Whitney Cummings, star of the not-so-funny sitcom, Whitney. But just over a year ago, we could catch another Whitney—Whitney Port—in The City. The last time we saw her, the affable reality-TV veteran was launching her fashion line, Whitney Eve—and facing criticism and tough love from ELLE editors and PR maven Kelly Cutrone. The question is how are Port and Whitney Eve doing these days? We caught up with the designer—and new Crest Whitestrips spokesperson—at a NYC Crest event last night to find out.
How are you and your line, Whitney Eve, doing?
Doing well! After being on The City, I moved back to California because my company, Whitney Eve, is family-run and it’s important for me to be working alongside my family. A lot of my friends are also out there. I still talk to Kelly [Cutrone] and Roxy [Olin] a lot—Kelly is helping me with my line. My goal in the next five years is for Whitney Eve to have more of a presence in retail, and to see more girls wearing my stuff.
How has Whitney Eve evolved since its debut in 2008?
I’ve learned to keep the economy in mind and to not look at every design like an art project! I’m actually launching a more affordable collection called We by Whitney Eve. I want girls who wear my clothes to take chances and feel unique but to also be comfortable and confident. For example, there’s this new wrap dress that I designed—it’s really comfortable and easy, but also stylish.
How has your smile evolved through the years?
I wore braces from sixth grade through my senior year of high school—I just had awful teeth! They were really crooked and went in all different directions. I’ve been using Crest Whitestrips for several years—ever since I started being on camera. I like them because I think they give a more natural-looking white. You can tell when someone’s teeth aren’t natural! I’ve never gotten my teeth professionally whitened, and I don’t think any of my friends have either. Most of them aren’t in the entertainment industry like I am, getting their picture taken all the time. So yes, I guess my smile has evolved quite a bit through the years—my grandma actually told me the other day how she can’t believe how much my teeth have improved!
