A Song Without an Audience

Hi Dollies!

My family recently bought a beautiful baby blue budgie called Frosty, and after a brief period of adjustment, she is now comfortable and happy in our home. Often I work at the table next to her cage, and my studies are accompanied by her constant friendly chirping.

Even when I'm upstairs, she sings to herself when it pleases her, and it reminded me of a scene from George Orwell's book, 1984: 'A thrush had alighted on a bough not five meters away... and then began to pour forth a torrent of song.' Orwell proceeds to describe a beautiful scene, perfect in every way, but what really hits home are the thoughts of Winston, the protagonist: 'For whom, for what, was the bird singing? No mate, no rival was watching it. what made it sit at the edge of the lonely wood and pour its music into nothingness?'

In our world today, there are many other sounds that drown out our voices. If you've picked up the metaphor now, I'm saying the media is so loud, with glaring headlines and crazy fads, and most of us probably feel that, however loud we shout, we will barely be heard by the world. Even here on Stardoll, there are constant broadcasts and Covergirl campaigns flashing onto our screens.

I'd like to encourage you to slow down from the big world and sing some positivity in your own small way, whether that be an uplifting blog post, or leaving a thoughtful comment in a Fuestbook. Of course it feels much better to be acknowledged, so I'm always more than happy to read blogs and albums, but I've learned over time that to receive some love, you have to start by giving some first. Spend at least five minutes visiting other dolls and sharing some encouragement!

Did I change your mindset? Now do you think it's worth voicing a sweet song into the chaotic world?

Take care,

♡ Joanne
