What are Culture Vultures?

For the sake of this series, please ignore anyone that tells you it means "culture appropriation." I'd like to stick within the context of "individuals who consume the arts excessively."

That is what I like to think my obsession with culture means. At least, that is the most accurate adjective I can think of for what it is I do.

You see, as a millenial living in the digital age, the golden age of new media, (TV/Web series and streaming services), I am able to binge watch and consume massive amounts of information and data in a bout of self-gratification unlike any generation before mine has ever witnessed.

I live, breathe, and consume the arts. From the written word, to video games, to visual art, to music and technology. My curiosity has no limits, and my imagination is ever-expanding.

Exposure is the key to self growth and I am all here for the latest and greatest. When I find myself feeling jaded, I can be dynamic, or revert to explore the past with further inspection.

When I was just a child, I told myself I wanted to read every book there ever was, study several languages and expose myself to as many cultures as possible. The reality is, resources are limited, and time is the greatest resource in the universe. That being said, it would take many lifetimes to read and watch everything that has ever been written and produced by humanity in every possible language it was avaible in or published.

Which brings me back to the reason I've undertaken this personal quest. At this point in my life, I estimate to have watched thousands of hours' worth of films, tv shows and documentaries. I have devoured hundreds of hours of books and games respectively. I've exposed myself to all kinds of genres in music. I have attempted to learn several languages as a hobby and make a habit of visiting musuems, gallieries, performances and expos when I get the chance.

I would like to share my collective knowledge with others, and that includes the pop culture info I consume. My upcoming post in this series will cover the best tv shows of the summer. Tell me, what cultures are you interested in learning about, books or media you'd like to see featured and introduce your fandom below!
