Preparing for Your Future

When you're in school, it can seem like becoming an independent adult is a long way away... but that doesn't mean you can't start preparing for that time now! Here are some ways you can make adulthood easier for yourself - while also having fun.

Getting Your Licence
Do you know what age you need to be to start working on your driver's licence in the area where you live? Why not find out! Getting your drivers licence is a huge step towards independence, and in many places you can start working on it before you leave high school. The earlier you work on your licence, the easier you will make your future - as many jobs require their employees to have a licence.

Volunteering
Volunteering for a non-profit organisation can often be done while you are still in school, and it can help you learn lots of important skills that will help you in your future life and career. There are many potential organisations and services who are looking for volunteers - research the ones that operate in your area, and decide with the help of an adult which one is most suited to you. Volunteering is a great way to make friends and have fun - you could even invite your own friends along to volunteer with you!

Working on Skills
By putting effort into developing skills that will help you in the future, you will be able to create an impressive portfolio of things that you are able to do - a huge advantage for job applications! One skill that is commonly required in many different jobs is a good knowlege of computer skills, including word processing programmes and spreadsheets. Taking a first aid course is also a really great idea - in some places, you can even get paid extra for having a current first aid certificate!
