Lady Gaga Vs. Cathy Horyn

In Lady Gaga‘s latest column, the popstar goes after Cathy Horyn. The New York Times‘ fashion critic recently criticized Versace’s excitement over dressing Gaga writing, “Be choosier, Ms. Versace.” But Gaga doesn’t mention that in her V memorandum, instead she takes issue with Horyn’s sometimes negative reviews and says, “It’s much more challenging to reckon with and analyze a work. It requires research, but maybe no one does their research anymore.” The popstar also suggests that Horyn should “employ a more modern and forward approach to criticism, one that separates [her] from the average individual at home on their laptop?” Then she mentions Tavi, who really does write at home on a computer (not that that’s relevant) as the perfect example of the future of journalism. On the memo, Gaga cc:s a host of people including Diana Vreeland and “intellectuals” in general, asking, “Why have we decided that one person’s opinion matters more than anyone else’s?” But Gaga’s late to this party—over the past few years fashion’s decided the opposite. It welcomes the critics with more than 25 years of experience and the fresh-faced blogger alike (for the most part). There will always be an audience for the journalist with decades of experience and references in the fashion industry and now there are also readers looking for an immediate, less studied response from someone they consider a peer. Thanks to the Internet, they can co-exist instead of one canceling out the other. Or do you agree with Gaga?
